Spring is around the corner and many residents are out jogging or walking off their winter "coats." As many residents are aware, the key to good health is consistency in eating right and exercise. New Sweat Shop owner Paul David says his goal is to help people do both.

Paul took over the business January 1. A local resident with a degree in Exercise Science from California State Long Beach, Paul says, "I have had my feet in two fitness related industries ?health club management and personal training ? for over 20 years. More recently, I also got into the spa Industry." Over the years, Paul also has attended continuing education classes and earned certifications in strength and conditioning training.

Married with two children, Paul understands the busy-ness of life and the struggles some find in getting a great work out in a small amount of time. That's why he offers a variety of classes throughout the day, each day of the week, including Saturdays. Yoga, spin/sculpting, Zumba, Pilates and trim challenge programs are taught by experts in the field.

"We hire artists," Paul explains. "We realize that anyone can get a certification and claim to be qualified to teach the classes. We view a certification as a base requirement, but we surround ourselves with coaches who want to keep growing in their skill."

Paul feels that a strong attribute of his programs is accountability. "Everyone gets their own coach." As a member of The Sweat Shop, a comprehensive healthy history and nutrition questionnaire is reviewed by coaches and specific recommendations on type and levels of classes are given to each individual. Members are also given nutritional guidelines to help complement their fitness routine.

Exercise is a big part, but eating right is an equal requirement to fitness. To help meet the needs of members and residents in the area, The Sweat Shop teamed up with Harvest2U, a company that delivers farm fresh organic vegetables and fruits from local farmers to the shop every Wednesday.

Paul believes in people being active, and businesses being actively involved in the community in which they reside. The Sweat Shop sponsors and participates in several local events. Paul is a part of the organizing committee for the Fit Community 5K/10K and the Triathlon Club, and is currently forming a team to participate in the local Relay for Life.

Residents are invited to visit the shop, located in the new commercial building in the Towne Center, 31590 Railroad Canyon Rd, and receive a free five-day guest pass. Information about classes and times can be found at www.wannasweat.com or by calling 246-2369.
