Senior Chair Volleyball brings home medals

Article

The Canyon Lake Senior Chair Volleyball Club teams won a medal in all three divisions they entered at the Inland Empire Senior Games, formerly known as the Senior Oldlympics. There are competitions in many different sports in the Senior Games, held at various locations. The Canyon Lake Chair Volleyball Club began competing against other teams in the Inland Empire in 2008.

This year's tournament was held in Sun City on October 18, organized by Jonathan Nolan of JPN Insurance. Sponsors for this event were Green Leaf Financial and Miller Jones Mortuary.

Canyon Lake Captain Zayda Pasqual and her “light play” team volleyed through several matches, eventually capturing the gold medal in Division 3.

Janine Schrufer's team earned the coveted gold medal in Division 2, which had the most teams competing.

Ray Beal's Division 1 team, also known as the Victorious Secrets, fought valiantly against extremely tough competition, ultimately bringing home the silver medal.

According to club spokesperson and photographer Bert Barbay, Chair Volleyball continues to grow in popularity across the nation. "This Canyon Lake club is growing, too, while members continue to focus on maintaining fitness throughout the golden years," says Bert. "They give back to the community, make new friends and, most importantly, have fun."
