The summer fun has begun!

The summer fun has begun!

The Lodge and surrounds was the focal point for residents and their guests to gather by the thousands last weekend to enjoy Fiesta Day and see the newly remodeled Lighthouse bar and restaurant. The Lighthouse staff held what they called a "soft re-opening" of the Lodge on Friday night, May 23, attended the first hour by VIPs and then opened to the public. Photo of the Week

Credit: Mike Clary

Those who watched the Fiesta Day Ski Show were privileged to see Canyon Lake's first ever three-tier pyramid, performed by members of one of Canyon Lake's newest clubs, ShowCal Skiers. Volunteer photographer Mike Clary captured this iconic image of the pyramid in front of the lighthouse. Skiing in the first tier are Tony Klarich, Ted Schiafone and Scott Redlin. In the second tier are Donica Loney and Stacy Norred. On top, a confident Destiny Loney waves to the crowd. Additional photos of the ski show will be printed in next week's issue. They also can be viewed at mikeclaryphotography.com and showcalskiers.org.

Cardboard Boat Challenge is wet and wild

The 2nd annual Fiesta Day Cardboard Boat Challenge was a much-photographed event, and for good reason. Twenty-eight boats made of nothing more than cardboard and duct tape lined the shore at Sunset Beach, with the challenge of paddling through a course adjacent to the swimming area and making it back to shore in one piece. Some of the more noteworthy designs included a Viking ship, a pirate ship …
