Canyon Lake residents Cathy Buell, Bonnie Wade, Sally and Don Wedehase and Jeannette Williams were joined by several friends on a Travel Club adventure to the Kentucky Derby.

Jeannette says, "Derby Day (May 3) at Churchill Downs was exciting ? the horses, the hats, the races, the betting, and of course, the Mint Juleps!" This was the 140th year for the Kentucky Derby. The winner ? appropriately enough for the California tourists ? was "California Chrome."

Jeannette says the trip included a tour of the famous Three Chimneys Farm, where the movie, “Secretariat,” was filmed, a behind-the-scenes tour of Keeneland Racecourse, a driving tour through the beautiful Bluegrass countryside, and a tour and tasting at Buffalo Trace Distillery ? one of the oldest in Kentucky.

Sally and Don spent a few days in Tennessee, visiting Nashville, Memphis, Graceland and making a stop at the home of Sally’s favorite elixir, Jack Daniels.Cathy and Jeannette also visited Nashville and took in a performance at the Grand Ole Opry, along with visiting “Tootsies” Lounge, where Willie Nelson originally performed and got his first song writing job.
