This cloud hovered above Canyon Lake Monday, fascinating those who viewed it as it changed from white to purple in the setting sun. Doug Bailey got a shot of the cloud's reflection in East Bay, while Diana Castillo captured the following scene. Several people identified the formation as a "lenticular cloud," which Wikipedia defines as a stationary lens-shaped cloud that form in the troposphere, normally in perpendicular alignment to the wind direction. These often form above mountains, but they also have been known to form as the result of shear winds created by a front. This particular cloud did precede cloudier skies and rainfall early Tuesday.
