Photographer Mike Clary noticed last Saturday’s sunset had unusual rich purple and magenta hues in the eastern sky, away from the setting sun toward the east. Mike says he captured this high dynamic range (HDR) photo by combining seven identical images taken at seven different exposures (one normal exposure, three under exposed and three over exposed). “This technique allows the image to include the darkest shadows as well as the brightest highlights and equal or exceed the ability of the eye to record the scene.” Mike says he did not make tonal adjustments.
