In a historic occasion for Canyon Lake, several organizations teamed up to provide a treatment for the lake that, if successful, will bring greater clarity to the water and offer a step in the right direction toward meeting looming demands to clean up California waterways. Here, a trail of alum can be seen next to the dam, the starting point for this week's treatment schedule. These photographs are by Dennis Bickers, who rode on one of the alum-spreading boats.
