Alum treatment begins Monday

If everything goes as anticipated, residents will start seeing improvement in the clarity of the lake water after next week's application of alum. Photo of the Week

"Oh, Don, look! What is that funny-looking boat coming our way?" When Jan Meyer sent this photo of Don and Bonnie Miller trying out a floating pad during a family beach party last Saturday, The Friday Flyer posted it on the Facebook page and asked readers to come up with a fun caption. There were some good ones. But we decided to use the picture to draw attention to the fact that oversized pontoon boats would be showing up on the Main Lake and East Bay next week to begin alum treatment. With large booms protruding off the sides, they'll be a sight to see. Boaters will be asked to reduce speeds to 5 mph in the areas where treatments are taking place over five days. And of course, water enthusiasts like Don and Bonnie will be asked to curtail their fun for a very short time! To learn all the details, see adjacent story.
