Golfers and guests invited to three golf tourneys

Members of the Tuesday Work Group (TWG) recently placed this plaque beside the enlarged putting green they created using about $6,000 in funds collected from previous CLAPPS Beautification Tournaments. The new putting green is located next to the parking lot at the Country Club.

Three major golf tournaments are coming up in the next few weeks, all designed to raise funds for worthwhile causes that benefit the community. Pick a date and plan to play!

? The Jr. Women’s Club will host its 4th annual Charity Golf Tournament on Saturday, April 13 (not April 30 as announced earlier) at the Canyon Lake Golf Course. Registration starts at 11 a.m., followed by a putting contest and a shotgun start at 1 p.m.†The day’s event will end with a banquet dinner, drawing and live auction.†The cost is $100 per person.

Planned for the day are a chance to win a golf cart in a hole-in-one contest, as well as prizes for a longest drive contest, closest-to-the-pin contest and more.†

One of the big goals JWC hopes to accomplish through this and other events is to increase the amount of scholarships the club can award this year.†

There are opportunities to participate in this fundraising event by sponsoring a hole, donating items for the prize drawing, auction or tee prize, and of course, playing. For more information on this event, contact Krissy Cissell at 834-5940 or e-mail canyonlakejwc@gmail.com.†

? The Canyon Lake Lions Club is sponsoring a Pro/Am Tournament on Thursday, April 25, at the Canyon Lake Golf Course. Men or women amateurs with an established handicap can register to play in a two-best-ball format tournament with a local professional on each team. The pros will be competing against each other and also will be helping their team in the best ball format. Other golfers, with or without a handicap, can participate in a scramble format. Entry deadline is April 20.

For a $5 donation, anyone landing in the small circle on hole 15 in one shot will receive $50, or $25 for landing in the larger circle. There will be a putting contest, a longest drive between two lines on hole 14 for both men and women and, for a $2 donation, an opportunity to get a prize for closest to the pin on holes 2, 8, 11 and17.

Sponsorships are being sought for tee signs, green signs, longest drive and putting contest. For sponsorship information, contact Lion Phil Coughlin at 805-0223. To register to play golf, contact Phil or Golf Pro Pat Kemball at 246-1782. The cost is $95 to enter for non-annuals and $65 for annuals. The price includes golf, cart, prizes and banquet following the tournament. Entry forms are available in the Canyon Lake Pro Shop.

? The Canyon Lake Association of Past Presidents (CLAPPS) invites all golfers to join the fun in support of a good cause to raise funds for the beautification of the Golf Course. The tournament is scheduled for Saturday, May 4.

The cost is $40 (green fees not included) and includes a buffet lunch. The game will be a Partner Best Ball with separate flights for men, women and couples. Included in the fun will be a drawing for free golf certificates to area courses, golf equipment and stay-and-play packages in Pismo Beach, Singing Hills and Borrego Springs. Golfers are invited to pick their own foursome or twosome and sign up in the Golf Shop.

The CLAPPS has a long history of supporting the Golf Course, having raised more than $40,000 over the past 15 years. Members have worked closely with volunteers in the Tuesday Work Group to accomplish many of the improvements residents may have noticed over the years.
