'Fit Community 2013' only two weeks away

Get the running/walking shoes ready ? the “Fit Community 2013” event is only two weeks away on Saturday, January 19! Here are the pre-race and day-of-race facts participants, as well as those along the race route, need to know.

Pre-race facts

? There will be no parking in the golf cart lanes on Canyon Lake Dr. North and Vacation Dr. between Canyon Lake Dr. North and Yosemite from 6:30 a.m to 10:30 a.m. on January 19.

? Prior to the event, the McKendry brothers, Ryan and Raymond, will conduct the pre-race warm-up. And, before, during and after the event, the Lodge will be selling breakfast items.

? Volunteers are still needed to help with event set-up, pre-registered and day-of-race registration sign-in, course direction, water station handouts and post-race activities. Youth volunteers can get their community service credit by helping out at this event. The volunteer hours are 6:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and will vary. To volunteer, contact the race organizers at events@canyonlaketriathlonclub.com.

Day-of-Race Facts

? Both pre-registered runners and walkers and those who plan to register on the day of the event should plan to arrive early to pick up their bibs, goodie bags and T-shirts. Registration opens at 7:30 a.m. and the 5K and 10K races will start promptly at 9 a.m.

? Those registering on race day can pay with cash or check. Credit cards won’t be accepted. Race-day fees are: $30 for the 5K, $35 for the 10K and $15 for the Kids 1K Fun Run.

? Runners and walkers will receive free water, Fluid sports drink, bananas, oranges, bagels and pizza from Grapes and Tomatoes after the 5K and 10K (these items will be restricted to participants only).

? The Canyon Lake Lodge bar also will be selling breakfast items.

? The Kids 1K Fun Run will start at 10 a.m. All 1K participants will receive a finisher’s ribbon.

? The awards ceremony will begin promptly at 10:30 a.m. Trophies will be awarded to the top three male and female runners in the 5K and 10K, and medals will be awarded to the top three male and female finishers in each age division. Age divisions are as follows: Under 11, 12-17, 18-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64 and 65-plus. All kids ages 17 and under will receive a finisher's ribbon.

? Mike Shroyer of Good Time Entertainment will provide pre- and post-race entertainment.

? Family and friends are encouraged to come out and cheer on the runners, as well as enjoy the food, entertainment and other vendor booths.

? There will be limited parking in the Lodge parking lot ? first come, first served. However, no cars will be permitted to enter the parking lot after 8:30 a.m., and those cars parked in the lot will not be permitted to leave until the race course is closed (approximately 10:30 a.m.) This will be strictly enforced this year.
