Club News: Bassmasters announce top anglers

Mark White and Jerry Jones won the December Bassmasters Tournament.

Eight boats and 14 anglers showed up for the Bassmasters' last tournament of the 2012 season. On what proved to be a tough day of fishing, a total of 32 fish weighing 65.68 pounds were brought to the scales. First place honors went to the team of Mark White and Jerry Jones, weighing in five fish for a total of 13.84 pounds. They also had Big Fish for the tournament of 4.44 pounds.

Second place went to Shannon Perkins and Jack Cave with 13.80 pounds. Rounding out the top three was Terry Voss and Matt English with 12.66 pounds.

Anglers accrue points throughout the year towards the title of “Angler of the Year.” First place gets 50 points, 2nd 49 and so on. There are also 25 points available for meeting participation. The 10 best tournament scores are used. This year was a close race, with Joe Grasso winning Angler of the Year with 501 points. The 1st runner up was Matt English with 498 points. Coming in at 3rd place was Travis Smith with 493 points. Congratulations to all three.

The Bassmasters have meetings in the Towne Center Conference Room on the first Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m. and hold a tournament on the following Saturday. They also hold six team tournaments per year, which are open to all residents of Canyon Lake.
