The Canyon Lake Tennis Club collected clothing for veterans at their “Endless Summer Barbecue Mixer” tournament on September 22. CLCT President Marga Kidd delivered the bags of donations to the U.S. Vets Housing and Employment site in Moreno Valley on October 8.

The stated mission of the United States Veterans Initiative is "the successful training of military veterans and their families through the provision of housing, counseling, career development and comprehensive support." U.S. Vets Riverside opened in 2003 and is located on Joint Power Authorities (JPA) property adjacent to the March Air Reserve Base in Moreno Valley. It currently serves 119 veterans daily.

Marga says the Tennis Club got the idea for helping the center after Veterans Day Committee Chair Nancy Horton sent out a letter to Canyon Lake clubs in preparation for this year's Veterans Day Ceremony on November 12, wanting to recognize those who are making an effort to help veterans.

"They were ever so grateful, and for the small effort made by the Tennis Club, I do believe we made a difference," says Marga.
