Paddle & Pedal Regatta to 'set sail' August 11

There probably won't be any sails, but it still should be a colorful sight when kayaks, canoes, paddle boards and pedal boats head out from Indian Beach on Saturday, August 11, at 10 a.m. for the Fitness & Triathlon Club's 2nd annual Paddle & Pedal Regatta.

All paddlers are invited to come out for the non-competitive, non-motorized East Bay cruise, set to begin at Indian Beach. Those who make it all the way will turn around at the East Port boat launch and return to Indian Beach. Along the way, they no doubt will get a chance to greet young fishermen from the Kids Fishing Derby, based at Holiday Harbor the same day.

Following the regatta will be a club-sponsored burger barbecue, which will be available to those who donate $5 per person. All donations will go to the Canyon Lake American Cancer Society Relay for Life fundraising event, which is held each October. Participants in the barbecue are asked to bring a side dish to share.

"Come out and participate in a healthy event and meet other fitness-minded residents!" says spokesperson Ronale Rhodes.

Organizers regret to tell those who were hoping to try out a paddle board they were unable to get a company to provide boards for demonstration.
